Cline Family Cellars was founded in 1982 by Fred and Nancy Cline. The Cline family’s roots date back to 1907 when owner Fred Cline’s grandfather, Valeriano Jacuzzi, immigrated from Italy, bringing with him a family tradition of farming and making wine. Fred and Nancy Cline’s extensive holdings of 80-100 year old head trained, dry-farmed, own rooted Zinfandel blocks in Contra Costa County produce significantly lower yields than younger sites and consistently produce fruit of stunning concentration. The warm climate yields rich fruit flavors, but the unique cooling band of air that flows from the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers helps contribute a bright acidity. The Clines have also planted Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah.
Light red in color. 15% ABV. 98% Zinfandel and 2% Carignane. Pretty nose of red and black fruits, anise and earthy loam. Medium body with ample acidity. A lighter Claret style Zinfandel. Raspberry liqueur, blackberries, spiced plums and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and sweet. Well made Zinfandel that is really hard to beat the $15 price point. Best over the next 2-3 years.
My rating: 90 points.
