New Releases from Wonderment Wines

Wonderment Wines was founded in 2011 by Stephanie Cook. The wines are focused on specific terroir where each wine represents the vineyards distinctive style and expression. Stephanie honed her winemaking skills at Robert Biale Vineyards, Spottswoode Estate and Spy Valley in New Zealand before going out on her own.

Stephanie recently sent me her new releases to review.

2013 Wonderment Wines Petite Sirah Bacigalupi Vineyard – Pitch red in color. 14.5% ABV. Black fruits, asphalt, flowers and espresso on the nose. Immense, concentrated and powerful. Black cherry, blackberry and iron on the palate. Big, gritty tannins on an exceptionally long finish. Enjoy this wine now with a healthy decant or tuck it away in the cellar for 6-8 years. $45 at the winery. My rating: 91 points.

2013 Wonderment Wines Pinot Noir Dutton-Campbell Vineyard – Light red in color. 14.1% ABV. Super nose of cranberry, baking spices and earth. Light body with strong acidity. Ethereal and delicate. Strawberry, rhubarb, pomegranate and mineral on the palate. Light in style but the wine picks up weight with time in the glass. Drink over the next 2-4 years. $40 at the winery. My rating: 93 points.

2013 Wonderment Wines Pinot Noir Dr. Stan’s Vineyard – Light red in color. 14.1% ABV. Red fruits, earth and dried flowers on the nose. Medium body with perfect acidity. Cherry, cranberry, mushrooms and cola on the palate. The wine finishes really strong. Super Carneros Pinot Noir. Drink over the next 3-5 years. $50 at the winery. My rating: 91 points.

2013 Wonderment Wines Zinfandel Bacigalupi Vineyard – Violet in color. 15% ABV. Super nose of red fruits and white pepper. Rich and juicy with mouth watering acidity. Perfect balance. Raspberry, boysenberry and a hint of citrus on the palate. This wine will only improve with a few years in the cellar. Exceptional Russian River Valley Zinfandel from an amazing vineyard. $40 at the winery. My rating: 92 points.

2013 Wonderment Wines Zinfandel Pritchett Peaks Vineyard – Violet in color. 15% ABV. Black fruits, cocoa powder and spice on the nose. Big and rich with classic texture. Black cherry, blackberry, plums and pepper on the palate. Awesome Claret style Zinfandel. Drink over the next 3-5 years. $50 at the winery. My rating: 92 points.

Definitely a great set of wines. Most of us are on too many mailing lists to begin with so I usually hesitate before suggesting you sign yourself up. I’ll make an exception here. I look forward to following the winery in the years to come.
