Bottle Notes, Pinot Noir

2015 Ponzi Vineyards Pinot Noir Reserve – Bottle Notes

Ponzi Vineyards was founded by Dick and Nancy Ponzi in 1970 in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The winery, along with other iconic Oregon wineries like Eyrie, Adelsheim and Sokol Blosser, paved the way for what is now one of the most exciting Pinot Noir regions in the world. Ponzi produces a number of wines including Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, but it is the Reserve Pinot Noir that receives the most acclaim.

Crimson in color. 13.9% ABV. Big nose of ripe red and black fruits, baking spices, earth and flowers. Full bodied with ample acidity. Rich and fruit forward. Black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and spice on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Much bigger Pinot Noir that I would have expected. Somewhat atypical but very easy to drink. Best over the next 2-4 years.

My rating: 91 points.

The 2017 vintage of Ponzi Reserve is $65 and can be purchased directly from the winery or from your favorite local wine shop.
