1999 Azienda Agricola Montevertine Le Pergole Torte Toscana IGT – Bottle Notes

Montevertine is situated in the heart of the Chianti, in the commune of Radda. Sergio Manetti founded Montevertine in 1971. Since Sergio’s passing in 2000, the estate has been run by his son Martino. Le Pergole Torte is the flagship wine of the estate and is named after the vineyards where the fruit is sourced. The artist for the Le Pergole Torte labels was Alberto Manfredi, who has passed.

Ruby red in color. 13% ABV. 100% Sangiovese. Exquisite nose of red fruits, anise, leather and road tar. Medium body with perfect acidity. More than enough fruit at 21 years of age to make the wine incredibly appealing. Cherries, tobacco, licorice and plums on the palate. The finish is long and seamless. Gorgeous wine that has aged better than anyone could have expected. Best over the next 1-2 years.

My rating: 94 points.

Le Pergole Torte is a world class wine and priced accordingly. You may be able to find the highly acclaimed 2016 version for around $175.
