Bottle Notes, Zinfandel

2016 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Pato Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Planted in 1905 and located on the interior edge of Oakley, this well-known site (Ridge, Rosenblum, Neyers and others have vineyard-designated it in the past) is own-rooted and planted on the Delhi sands that define the area.

Purple in color. 14% ABV. Savory nose of brambly red and black fruits, plums, earth and pepper. Medium body with medium acidity. Charming, Claret style Zinfandel with plenty of lush, sweet fruits. Strawberry, blood orange, black cherry and pepper on the palate. Fantastic Zinfandel with a really unique flavor profile. Given a healthy mix of Petite Sirah I suspect this will age well. Best over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 93 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
