2015 Ferren Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast – Bottle Notes

Winemaker Matt Courtney founded Ferren Wines in 2013 with longtime friend David Wherritt after an eight-year apprenticeship with Helen Turley at Marcassin Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. Ferren specializes in Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Matt is also the winemaker at Arista.

Crimson in color. 14.8% ABV. Sensational nose of dark fruits, wet forest floor, flowers and minerals. Medium to full bodied with exceptional acidity. Sweet, dark fruits in spades make this wine incredibly appealing. Black cherry, black raspberry, cranberry and baking spices on the palate. The finish is long and silky. Really impressive Pinot Noir from a producer that should be on your radar. Best over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 94 points.

The 2018 version of this wine was just recently released to the mailing list and it may not be too late to acquire a few bottles.

I previously wrote about Ferren in Three New Mailers to Consider. I’ve been on the mailing list for several vintages and look forward to following Ferren in the years to come.
