New Releases from Wonderment Wines

Wonderment Wines was founded in 2011 by Stephanie Cook. The wines are focused on specific terroir where each wine represents the vineyards distinctive style and expression. Stephanie honed her winemaking skills at Robert Biale Vineyards, Spottswoode Estate and Spy Valley in New Zealand before going out on her own. Wonderment Wines produces Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah and Sauvignon Blanc.

Stephanie recently sent me some of her new wines to try.

2017 Wonderment Wines Pinot Noir Dutton-Campbell Vineyard – Light red in color. Pretty nose of red fruits, forest floor, cloves and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Earthy and elegant. Cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, spice and a hint of sarsaparilla on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Beautiful Pinot Noir that is earthy yet packed with concentrated Russian River Valley fruits. Give this wine several years in the cellar. Best over the next 4-6 years. $44 at the winery and retail. My rating: 94 points.

2018 Wonderment Wines Sauvignon Blanc Hyde Vineyard – Light straw colored. 14% ABV. Vibrant nose of citrus, lemon and grass. Medium body with bright acidity. Crisp and refreshing. Pears, nectarine, lemon and minerals on the palate. The finish is long and spicy. Really well made Sauvignon Blanc from a well established Carneros Vineyard. Best over the next several years. $30 at the winery and retail. My rating: 91 points.

2017 Wonderment Wines Petite Sirah Bacigalupi Vineyard – Opaque purple in color. 14% ABV. Brooding nose of black fruits, road tar and iron. Full bodied with ample acidity. Immense and concentrated. Blackberry liqueur, boysenberry, blood and dark chocolate on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish with copious, chalky tannins. Approachable now but undoubtedly a wine that will age well. Best over the next 6-10 years. $48 at the winery and retail. My rating: 92 points.

I get samples from wineries frequently. With that in mind the set from Wonderment is always something I look forward to.

Most of us are on too many mailing lists to begin with so I usually hesitate before suggesting you sign yourself up. I’ll make an exception here. I look forward to following the winery in the years to come.
