Bottle Notes, Zinfandel

Zinfandel of the Month – 2014 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard

Zinfandel of the Month is a regular feature on Zinfandel Chronicles. Keep in mind that although the Zinfandel of the Month might be an older bottle, the current vintage will be one you can find at retail or via the mailing list.

The November Zinfandel of the Month is the 2014 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard.

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

I chose this particular wine as today is the deadline for the Winter mailer at Bedrock. This mailer includes the 2018 Monte Rosso. At $55 the wine commands a premium to most Zins.

Monte Rosso was planted in the 1880’s by Emanuel Goldstein and the original winery is still on the property. Located off of Highway 12 in Sonoma the grapes are being used by Carlisle, Bedrock, Louis Martini and Robert Biale.

Purple in color. 14.5% ABV. Super nose of brambly black fruits, baking spices, flowers and earth. Medium to full body with mouth watering acidity. Juicy, spicy, Claret style Zinfandel. Black cherry, raspberry, blood orange and pepper on the palate. The finish is tremendous. Stunning Zinfandel from an iconic vineyard that is exceedingly approachable already. Best over the next 2-4 years.

My rating: 93 points.

I placed my order for the Bedrock winter mailer and the Monte Rosso made it to my shopping cart!

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
