2013 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Gibson Ranch – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels and Field Blends, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Gibson Ranch is located in the Mendocino Valley outside of Hopland. The oldest plantings date to the 1880s and are tended to by Scot Bilbro of Marietta Cellars.

Magenta in color. 14.3% ABV. Unique field blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Peloursin, Trousseau Noir and Grenache. Awesome nose of brambly black fruits, flowers and baking spices. Medium body with a boatload of acidity. Lean and tart with a mouthful of tannins. Blackberry, black cherry, earth and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Just a rustic, old school field blend. This wine embodies what I envision the Italian immigrants who planted many of the heritage vineyards likely looked for in a glass of wine. Drink over the next 5-7 years.

My rating: 91 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
