Bottle Notes, Zinfandel

Zinfandel of the Month – 2017 Cedarville Vineyard Zinfandel

Zinfandel of the Month is a regular feature on Zinfandel Chronicles. Keep in mind that although the Zinfandel of the Month might be an older bottle, the current vintage will be one you can find at retail or via the mailing list.

The May Zinfandel of the Month is the 2017 Cedarville Vineyard Zinfandel.

I chose the Cedarville as the wine was just recently released and should be available at both retail and the winery. I have a history with Cedarville going back 15 years and the wine is always fairly priced and well made.

Cedarville Vineyard was founded by Jonathan Lach and Susan Marks in 2000. Cedarville Vineyard is located in the Gold Rush era town of Fair Play and is situated within the Fair Play, El Dorado, and Sierra Foothills AVAs. The winery produces many wines including a Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Petite Sirah and Syrah.

Magenta in color. 15.5% ABV. Savory nose of red and black fruits, herbs and earth. Medium to full bodied with plenty of acidity. Exceedingly plush and well balanced. Black cherry liqueur, boysenberry, blood and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. A unique and delicious expression on Zinfandel from the Sierra Foothills. Very good value at $25. Best over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 91 points.

Cedarville Vineyard is open by appointment and is a great stop on any visit to the Sierra Foothills.
