Bottle Notes, Zinfandel

2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Dry-farmed, own-rooted, and planted in 1915, Kirschenmann is owned and farmed by Tegan and Olivia Passalacqua. Tegan, is the farming and winemaking force behind Turley Wine Cellars along with his own label, Sandlands. The vineyard lies in a cool section of Lodi near the Mokelumne River.

Bright red in color. 14.6% ABV. Awesome nose of brambly red fruits, peach and minerals. Medium body with perfect acidity. Fresh with bright fruit on the palate. Flavors of cherries, raspberries, earth and pepper. The finish is exquisite. Really pretty and unique Zinfandel. So light and lithe with amazing purity of fruit. A Zinfandel for a Pinot Noir drinker? Well done! Drink over the next 2-3 years.

My rating: 93 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
