2006 Turley Zinfandel Duarte – Bottle Notes

Turley Wine Cellars was founded in 1993 by Larry Turley and specializes in small lots of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah from some of California’s most historic and treasured vineyards.

This wine is an homage to Joe Duarte, a prominent grape grower in Contra Costa who first introduced Turley to the incredible vineyards of the area. The wine is comprised of fruit from the Evanghelo, Mori, and Salvador vineyards, all in Contra Costa.

Crimson red in color. Just a touch cloudy. 15.8% ABV. Big nose of brambly red fruits, leather, currants and spice. Supremely balanced. Not even the slightest hint of heat. Rich, jammy flavors of strawberry, cranberry, cherry, pepper and rhubarb. The finish on the wine is long and sweet. Drink over the next year or so.

More and more I am finding that some of these Turley Zins from the mid 2000’s are showing exceptionally well 5-8 years from release.

My rating: 91 points.

Turley wines are available via the mailing list and periodically at retail.

With all due respect to Carlisle and Bedrock, Turley is unequivocally the best Zinfandel producer in California. Exceptional vineyards and no detail spared in the winemaking process. The wines are simply better than ever.

Turley has tasting rooms in both Amador and Paso Robles. If you are not on the mailing list, this is an easy way to secure bottles. Both are not to be missed if you are in the area.
