2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Monte Rosso was planted in the 1880’s by Emanuel Goldstein and the original winery is still on the property. Located off of Highway 12 in Sonoma the grapes are being used by Carlisle, Bedrock, Louis Martini and Robert Biale.

Crimson in color. 15% ABV. Great nose of red and black fruits, citrus, charcoal and graphite. Rich, unctuous and exceptionally well balanced. Super acidity. Raspberry, stone, pepper and briar on the palate. One of the best Zins I have had this this year. I had meant to open the 2010. Accidents happen. This wine is just a baby and needs at least 3-5 more years in the cellar.

My rating: 94 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Don’t delay.

I blogged about Bedrock recently in the Zinfandel Chronicles Power Rankings and Monte Rosso Vineyard in The Top 10 Old Vine Zinfandel Vineyards.
