Bottle Notes, Zinfandel

Zinfandel of the Month – 2011 Klinker Brick Zinfandel

Zinfandel of the Month is a new feature on Zinfandel Chronicles. For background please see the first installment published last October. Keep in mind that although the Zinfandel of the Month might be an older bottle, the current vintage will be one you can find at retail or via the mailing list.

The May Zinfandel of the Month is the 2011 Klinker Brick.

Steve and Lori Felten represent the fifth generation of their family to grow grapes in Lodi.  They started Klinker Brick Winery and produced their first vintage of old vine Zinfandel in 2000. The winery name comes from the Klinker Bricks that grace many of the historical buildings in Lodi.

Crimson in color. 15.8% ABV. Sourced from old vine vineyards in the Mokelumne and in the Clements Hills region of Lodi. Red fruits, baking spice and vanilla on the nose. Medium body and medium acidity. Raspberry jam, strawberry, blackberry, brown sugar and a hint of pepper on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long. Drink over the next 2-3 years.

My rating: 90 points.

This wine should run around $22 at retail. Super wine for the price.
