2011 Bedrock North Coast Syrah – Bottle Notes

2011 Bedrock Syrah

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from several of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. I’ve lost track of the number of wines Morgan makes, but Syrah and Zinfandel seem to be the specialties.

The 2011 North Coast Syrah is a blend of declassified Alder Springs and Hudson T Syrah. Syrah from Shanel Vineyard, Griffin’s Lair, and a touch of Viognier from Steiner Ranch on Sonoma Mountain were also included in the mix.

The wine is a brilliant purple in color. 14% ABV. Smoke, flowers and meat on the nose. Olive brine, game, dark fruits, anise, plum, bacon, iodine and white pepper on the palate. The finish is a little clipped right now but might fill out with some time in the cellar. My rating: 90 points.

At $20 via the winery I’m hard pressed to think of a better deal in California Syrah – this certainly rivals the Carlisle Sonoma County Syrah with regard to value.Supremely crafted wines from great sites at very fair prices. There is a lot to like here and a lot to look forward to.

Run, don’t walk, to get on the mailing list at Bedrock.
