2006 Carlisle Bacchi Ranch Zinfandel – Bottle Notes

2006 Carlisle Bacchi Ranch Zinfandel

Carlisle Winery & Vineyards was founded in 1998 by Mike Officer. Their passion is clear: small lots of Zinfandel and Syrah from exceptional, historic vineyards.

Planted in 1909, Bacchi Ranch is located in the northern reaches of Russian River Valley, near the borders of Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys on Limerick Lane.

16% ABV but like most Carlisle wines, this is exceptionally well-balanced and shows little if any heat. Super silky and full bodied. Brambly red and black fruits. Briar, graham, pepper, raspberries, spice, vanilla. A long, jammy finish that literally lingers on the palate for a minute. This wine is 6 years old but could easily age another 1-3 years. Unfortunately, this was my one and only bottle, and the last vintage of Carlisle Bacchi Ranch Zinfandel made.

Current vintages of the various Carlisle Zinfandels are available via the mailing list, which is exceptionally long. Several retail outlets in California stock Carlisle, but you need to check with them at the time the winery releases their wines each spring and fall.

My rating: 93 points
